What age would you say is appropriate to have sex?

I am 21 years old and I am a virgin. Part of this reason was that I never wanted to have sex another part of this reason was that at my old university I was never that socially active and I was kind of overweight. However at the college that I have transferred to I find that its alot easier to meet people because they are alot of parties on campus and also I lost alot of weight. And there is a girl that I am kind of dating who had sex before once or twice that I am thinking of sleeping with.
